Fergus vs Jobber: a new challenger relaunches AI-first and undercuts our pick
- YesStay putswitch at a natural break
- NoNeed two-way SMS, job costing or QuickBooks sync?
Why this page exists this week: Fergus, a job-management platform already used by more than 26,000 tradespeople across Australia, New Zealand and the UK, announced an AI-first relaunch on 2026-09-13: Fergus Assistant on desktop, Fergus Go on mobile, and a new Fergus AI layer aimed at cutting admin, flagging jobs that lose money, and speeding up invoicing. Jobber is our pick in that exact slot. Nobody has written this comparison yet, and its US pricing turns out to matter more than its AI headline.
The pricing, side by side
Read Fergus's numbers off fergus.com/us/pricing, the US-region page specifically. The bare fergus.com/pricing page (no /us/ path) shows different, higher figures, most likely a different currency, since Fergus is New Zealand-founded and serves four separate regions from one domain. We are quoting the /us/ page only.

Fergus's US pricing read on fergus.com/us/pricing, 2026-09-15. The page shows a bare dollar sign with no explicit "USD" label, but the URL path is region-specific and a footer selector lists Global, Australia, New Zealand, UK and US as separate destinations, so we are treating it as USD on strong contextual evidence rather than an explicit statement, and flagging that distinction here rather than asserting it as settled fact. Jobber's figures are as verified 2026-09-02 on our own Jobber pricing page, all confirmed USD.
The gap that matters
Fergus bills month to month only; its own FAQ says it does not offer yearly pricing. So the like-for-like comparison is Jobber's month-to-month price. At the entry tier that is Fergus Essentials at $31 against Jobber Core at $49, or $29 if you commit to Jobber for a year. That is not the interesting number. The interesting number is one tier up. Fergus Professional, marked "Most Popular" on its own pricing page, is $44/month. Jobber's next tier, Connect, the first one that adds a second user, is $99/month billed annually or $139 month to month. On the vendors' own feature lists, Fergus Professional (GPS tracking, checklists, job phases, file storage, advanced reporting, phone support) and Jobber Connect look like a genuine like-for-like comparison, not two different products wearing similar names. That puts Fergus at less than half of Jobber Connect on an annual commitment, and about a third of it month to month, for what appears to be a comparable tier, before either company's AI claims enter the conversation at all.
The two trials fail in opposite directions, and neither shows you the plan you will probably buy. Fergus's 14-day trial needs no card, but its FAQ says it runs on Essentials, the bottom tier, so you never see Professional's GPS tracking, job phases or advanced reporting before paying for them. Jobber's 14-day trial, as our own price-grid page documented on 2026-09-02, runs on Grow, the third tier: automated follow-ups, two-way SMS, job costing and QuickBooks sync all disappear on day fifteen for anyone who then subscribes to Core, the plan most solo operators actually buy. One trial under-shows, the other over-shows. Budget an extra month on the tier you actually intend to run before judging either.
What we cannot tell you, and will not pretend to
Fergus's AI-first relaunch is three days old at the time of writing. The press release carries one customer quote ("saving us hours every week") and no independent review has had time to form. We have not run Fergus ourselves, on a real job, for a real week. Neither, for that matter, have we tested Jobber's own AI features against it head to head; our existing Jobber write-up is a pricing and structure analysis, not a timed test. Whether Fergus AI actually catches a job that is losing money before the job is finished, or whether that is a marketing sentence ahead of the product, is exactly the kind of claim this site refuses to repeat as fact until we have logged it ourselves.
There is also a maturity question a price grid cannot answer. Jobber has been the pick in this stack since it launched, with a fully documented price grid, a known processing rate, and (as of our August correction) a track record of us catching and publicly fixing our own mistakes about it. Fergus is asking a tradesperson to trust a newly-relaunched AI layer on a platform most US readers have not heard of. Cheaper is not automatically better if the thing you are buying is less proven.
Choose Jobber if…
- You want the platform with the longer public track record in the US market and a price grid we have already mapped tier by tier, add-on by add-on.
- You are already mid-season on it. Switching field-service platforms costs more than any feature gap or price difference, the same skip rule our tradespeople stack has always carried.
- You specifically want the Grow-tier features (two-way SMS, job costing, QuickBooks sync) and are willing to trial or buy at that tier to get them.

Jobber
Core $29/month annual, $39 one-year, $49 month to month, one user · Connect $99/$139 · Grow $149/$199 · Plus from $399 · extra users $29/month each (verified 2026-09-02, USD) · getjobber.com · full price grid
Choose Fergus if…
- You want the lower price at the comparable middle tier, and no annual lock-in: $44 month to month against Jobber Connect's $99 on a yearly commitment or $139 month to month, for a feature list that reads as similar scope.
- You want to try it without handing over a card: the 14-day trial needs none. Know that it runs on Essentials, so you will be judging the bottom tier rather than the Professional plan most people buy.
- You are comfortable being an early adopter of a feature set that relaunched days ago and has no independent track record yet, including ours.

The affiliate door, read but not walked through
Fergus's referral-partner programme, at fergus.com/us/referral-partner/, runs on PartnerStack: a one-time tiered bonus of $250 (0-3 referrals), $400 (4-15) or $500 (16+) per completed sale, not a recurring percentage. The page lists preferred partner categories including wholesalers, financial and insurance professionals, and social media influencers, which reads broker-leaning but does not explicitly exclude a review site. Cookie window and full eligibility terms are not published on that page and would only appear inside the PartnerStack application itself, which we have not opened. Per the same rule this site applied to Kilo Code, Frase and Gamma: the verdict above was written first, and any application follows it, with the disclosure on this page rewritten in the same commit as any tracking link.
What we have not evaluated
This page compares exactly two tools, because Jobber is the platform pick in our tradespeople stack and Fergus is this week's credible new challenger to that slot. We have not evaluated Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, or any other field-service platform here; our tradespeople stack already covers why we are not recommending a switch from either of those.
Everything above comes from both vendors' current published pricing pages, read 2026-09-15 for Fergus and 2026-09-02 for Jobber, which is why this is labelled a Research Edition and not a test result. Specifically unmeasured: how Fergus AI performs on a real week of admin, whether Jobber's own AI features hold up against it, output quality on either platform's automated invoicing or job-costing, and the true seat cost for a Fergus crew above one user, since the pricing page does not itemize a flat per-seat add-on the way Jobber does. When the hands-on cycle runs on either platform, this page gets re-scored and the changelog records what changed.

Common questions
Is Fergus cheaper than Jobber?
At the entry tier it depends on how you bill. Fergus is month to month only, at $31; Jobber Core is $49 month to month, or $29 if you commit for a year. The real gap opens one tier up. Fergus Professional, its most-popular plan, is $44/month. Jobber's next tier, Connect, is $99 billed annually or $139 month to month, for what reads as a comparable feature set on both vendors' own pages: GPS tracking, checklists, file storage, advanced reporting on Fergus; a second user and enhanced scheduling on Jobber. That is the gap worth checking before you renew.
What is new about Fergus?
Fergus relaunched AI-first on 2026-09-13 across three surfaces: Fergus Assistant on desktop, Fergus Go on mobile, and a new Fergus AI layer that automates admin through the job lifecycle, flags jobs that are losing money, and speeds up invoicing and payment collection. The underlying platform is not new (Fergus already served more than 26,000 tradespeople across Australia, New Zealand and the UK), but this AI layer is days old at the time of writing, with one customer quote in the press release and nothing we have tested ourselves.
Does either tool pay ProvenStacks a commission?
Neither, today. Jobber runs an affiliate programme through PartnerStack; we applied on 2026-08-13 and the application is still pending. Fergus runs a referral-partner programme through PartnerStack paying a one-time $250 to $500 per sale depending on volume, not a recurring share, and we deliberately have not applied to it. We are publishing this comparison before we read the application, the same order we followed for Kilo Code and Frase, and if we ever enrol it goes in the commission table and the changelog first.
Which one should a tradesperson pick right now?
We are not crowning a winner, because the honest answer depends on facts we do not have yet. Jobber is the platform this site has recommended since launch, with a documented, fully mapped price grid and a trial structure we have already dissected in detail. Fergus is cheaper at the comparable tier and just relaunched with AI features that could be genuinely useful or could be marketing copy ahead of the product; we have not run either tool, so we cannot say which admin burden actually drops more in a real week.
