The AI Stack for Tradespeople
The short version: trades win or lose money in the gaps: the quote that went out three days late, the job photos nobody can find, the customer who left one bad review because the follow-up never came. The four tools below close those gaps for about $112/month, and none of them require you to touch a keyboard on site. This is the least-covered profession in the AI-tools space, which is exactly why the generic lists fail you: they recommend writing assistants to people who work with their hands.
1. Claude: the office manager you talk to
Our pick · No affiliate program, so we earn $0 recommending this
Claude (Pro plan)
$20/month · claude.ai
Dictate the job details from the van; get back a written quote, a professional email, and a diplomatic reply to that unfair review. The voice-in, polished-text-out loop is the single highest-value AI habit for anyone who'd rather be on the tools than at a desk.

2. Jobber: quotes, scheduling, invoices, one app

Jobber (Core, or Connect once you add a second person)
Core $29/month billed annually, $39 on a one-year commitment, $49 month to month, one user · Connect $99/month annual, $139 month to month · Grow $149 annual, $199 month to month · extra users $29/month each (verified September 2026, all prices USD) · getjobber.com
We got this wrong in August and we are correcting it here. We published that Jobber had retired its Core tier and that the entry plan was Connect at $199 a month. Core is on Jobber's pricing page today at $29 a month billed annually, and the $199 figure we quoted is the month-to-month price of Grow, two tiers up. That mistake put roughly $90 a month of imaginary cost on this page. If you priced this stack here in August and walked away, price it again.
The field-service standard for solo trades and small crews: request → quote → schedule → invoice → payment in one flow, with AI features summarizing customer history before you knock. The real win is response time: quotes that go out the same hour win jobs against better contractors who reply on Thursday.
3. CompanyCam: the photo trail that ends disputes

CompanyCam
From ~$63/month (Core plan) · companycam.com
Every job photo auto-organized by project and location, timestamped, annotatable, shareable with the customer. Its AI turns photo sets into reports. "Here's the pipe before we opened the wall" has ended more payment disputes than any contract clause ever written.
4. Canva: the marketing you do from the couch
Not an affiliate · pays us $0 · Free tier is genuinely enough to start
Canva (Free or Pro)
Free · Pro ~$15/month · canva.com
Before/after posts are the highest-converting marketing in the trades, and they take four minutes each in Canva. One good transformation post a week beats any ad budget a solo trade can afford.
What we considered and rejected
| Tool | Why it didn't make the stack |
|---|---|
| AI answering services (Goodcall etc.) | Promising category (missed calls are real money), but customers calling a plumber at 9pm want a human or a promise of one. Revisit as the tech matures; test on overflow only. |
| ServiceTitan | The enterprise king. If you have five trucks and a dispatcher, ignore us and buy it. At solo scale its price and complexity are a burden, not a tool. |
| Generic "AI website builders" | A one-page site with your number, photos, and reviews wins locally. You don't need an AI site builder subscription for that. Spend the money on CompanyCam and post the photos instead. |
| Dedicated review-management SaaS (Podium etc.) | Effective but priced for multi-location businesses. At solo scale: Jobber's automated follow-up asking for the review + Claude drafting your replies covers 90% of it. |
Common questions
What AI tools do tradespeople need?
Four: Claude Pro for quotes and customer messages, Jobber for scheduling and invoicing, CompanyCam for timestamped job photos, and Canva for marketing. Jobber's Core plan is on its pricing page at $29 a month billed annually, $39 on a one-year commitment and $49 month to month, for one user. That puts the stack at about $112 a month with Canva's free tier. Connect, the first tier with more than one user included, is $99 a month billed annually or $139 month to month, which takes the stack to about $182. We published $203 here in August on the basis that Core had been retired; it is on the page today, and this figure is corrected. Verified September 2026.
Is a software stack worth it for a small trades business?
One job won per quarter because your quote went out first, or one dispute ended by a timestamped photo, still covers the whole stack for the year, and in the trades a single job is usually worth more than a year of this software. In the trades the point of the stack is never losing work to the desk, not saving time at it.
Can AI write my quotes and estimates?
It can write the words. The numbers are yours. Never let a model estimate materials or code requirements: that is your license and your margin on the line.
Should I switch from Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan?
No, if what you have is working. Switching field-service platforms mid-season costs more than any feature gap, and this category is sticky for good reason.
The math
Full stack: ~$112/month for a one-person operation on Jobber Core billed annually with Canva's free tier, ~$132 paying Jobber month to month, and ~$182 once you need Jobber Connect for a crew (all prices verified September 2026, so check the vendor pages). We published ~$203 here in August on the mistaken basis that Jobber had retired Core. One job won per quarter because your quote went out first, or one dispute ended by a timestamped photo, still covers the whole stack for the year, and in the trades a single job is usually worth more than a year of this software. In the trades the point of the stack is never losing work to the desk, not saving time at it.
